Fructose Absorption Analysis – Breath Test Parameters

Detect fructose malabsorption reliably — no blood sample, no trip to the doctor. Hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) in your breath show exactly whether your body can process fruit sugar.

Evaluation usually takes 7–21 days from the arrival of the sample at the laboratory, not from the order. As soon as your results are in, we let you know straight away.
  • Direct functional test Drink the test solution, then measure your breath for 3 hours — shows the actual processing, not just a single value
  • Gas chromatography Precise measurement of hydrogen and methane at the partner laboratory
  • Can be done at home No trip to the doctor, around 3 hours of testing
  • Results consultation included Evaluation by the expert team

The approach

Measure first, then decide

Without measured values, any treatment is guesswork. We turn the order around: first the lab report, then the decision.

Consultation to put the measured values in context
  1. 01
Measure Hydrogen and methane in your breath at five time points, analysed at the partner laboratory in Germany.
Fructose breath test · breath, 5 time points · 7–21 days from sample arrival
  2. 02
See where you stand Every value appears in the lab report alongside the laboratory reference range. You can see which values fall inside it and which do not.
    Lab report including consultation
  3. 03
Targeted rather than blanket Instead of a standard package, you take what your values point to — agreed with a practitioner.
    Initial consultation, 10 minutes, free
  4. 04
Measure again after a few months The same analysis a second time shows how the values have changed.
    Earliest sensible interval: 3 months

What a value means, and whether a supplement is right for you, is something to discuss with a practitioner. This page makes no recommendation and is no substitute for medical assessment.

What this analysis includes

What is measured

Hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) in your breath at five time points over three hours — shows whether fructose is properly absorbed in the small intestine.

B120 Hydrogen (H₂) in breath A sign of bacterial fermentation of undigested fructose in the large intestine
B120 Methane (CH₄) in breath An additional marker, raised in some people instead of or alongside H₂

The biomarker reference explains what lies behind the numbers: how values interact, which cofactors are involved and which biochemical processes take place in the body — for all values and areas, not only this analysis.

To the biomarker reference

For whom

The fructose breath test suits people with bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation after fructose-rich meals, and also with fatigue, headaches, trouble concentrating or food cravings of unclear cause.

What a single value means in your situation is something to discuss with a practitioner. It does not replace medical assessment.

How it works

Four steps from order to lab report.

  1. 01 Kit arrives Ships the next working day, postage paid to your door.
  2. 02 Drink the test solution After the baseline reading, drink the solution supplied.
  3. 03 Measure your breath Blow into tubes at 5 time points (0, 30, 60, 120, 180 min).
  4. 04 Lab report arrives 7–21 days after the sample reaches the laboratory, consultation included.

Instructions

The essentials first:

  • Start on an empty stomach and take the baseline reading before drinking the test solution.
  • After drinking it, blow into a tube at 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes.
  • Label all 5 tubes and send them in together.

Please read the instructions carefully. Correct preparation matters: only then can your sample – stool, urine, saliva or blood – be evaluated cleanly and meaningfully.

Testing for families and partners

Testing together shows connections a single analysis cannot make visible. We need three things for it.

Clear details per person For everyone tested we need a name and date of birth so the laboratory can match everything correctly.
A separate email address Each person needs their own email for secure digital access. Where that is not possible, we send the results as a PDF to one shared address.
Unambiguous labelling Samples and forms must each be assigned to exactly the right person.

From three tests of the same analysis for the family, you get 10 % off. Write to us and we will send your personal discount code.

Reimbursement by private insurance

This is how a possible reimbursement by your private insurer works with us:

01 A short online consultation with one of our therapists We go through your symptoms and record a brief medical history.
02 A referral for the relevant lab tests After the consultation you receive a referral that you can submit to your private insurer.

Many private insurers cover the cost in full or in part – some, however, not at all. That depends entirely on your policy. We will support you through the process as best we can.

Supplements for the areas in this analysis

Which supplement is right for you, and at what dose, is something you discuss with a practitioner after the lab report. This page recommends nothing.
