Darmkrebs entwickelt sich im Durchschnitt über einen Zeitraum von 10 Jahren aus einem kleinen, unkontrolliert wachsenden Zellhaufen (Hyperplasie).

Daraus entsteht zunächst ein kleiner, harmloser Darmpolyp, der über viele Jahre harmlos bleibt. (Adenom)
