What does melatonin do in the body?
Melatonin production is linked to a healthy sleep rhythm. However, it also plays a profound role in the metabolism of many organs. Its release is triggered by darkness— thus, melatonin levels are highest at night. However, if its release doesn't increase sufficiently, the circadian and sleep rhythms become disrupted.

No cell phone before bedtime
There are many reasons for insufficient melatonin release—one of the most common is mobile phone use shortly before bedtime. Other causes include:
- Age
- Late light & time change
- shift work
- caffeine
- Tryptophan deficiency

Nobody needs bad sleep
Those suffering from sleep disorders feel overwhelmed, lack concentration, make mistakes, and are prone to losing their temper. In the long term, the lack of nighttime rest takes a toll on health: cardiovascular problems, headaches, high blood pressure—but the immune system can also be weakened. Furthermore, it leads to insufficient regeneration of body cells.

What role does tryptophan play?
Tryptophan is one of the essential amino acids that the body cannot produce itself. Tryptophan is the precursor to serotonin and is therefore also needed to produce melatonin. A deficiency in L-tryptophan therefore affects numerous mechanisms in the body and can also affect our sleep rhythm.
